Boulia is the last Queensland town on the Outback Highway which goes to Laverton in Western Australia. The town has a population of 350 people and features 3 accommodation venues (hotel/motel, caravan park, motel), a Visitor Information and Tourist centre, a museum, a world class fossil display of Ichthyosaurs, a supermarket, roadhouse, three coffee outlets and multi ‐purpose sports and aquatic centre. Boulia was once part of the great Eromanga inland sea and many Ichthyosaur and other Plesiosaur fossils have been located here.

Boulia plays host to the biggest camel race in Queensland every July and features the longest camel race in Australia. There are events and activities held every month which can be seen on the Council facebook page.
